Cuba
Cuba is an archipelago in the northern Caribbean. It is a republic with Havana as its capital. The population is over 11 million inhabitants covering an area of 110,860 km2. The official language is Spanish.
Inter Campus Cuba was established in 2005 in collaboration with the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), the Mincex (Ministry of Foreign Investment), the Asociación de Futbol, and the INDER (Ministry of Sports). The partnership with the latter two is still active, operating since 2009 in the Plaza nucleus in Havana and in the Holguin nucleus in the eastern provinces of the island, areas lacking international cooperation projects. In 2019, a new nucleus was inaugurated in Havana with a new partner, the congregation of the Hijas de la Misericordia, in the Haimanitas neighborhood. To date, the project includes approximately 260 children and 10 coaches.
The objectives, agreed upon with the partners, focus on the social and human promotion of children in remote and marginalized areas through recreational activities and pedagogical-sports training, specifically promoting soccer. In recent years, the project has placed particular emphasis on the inclusion of girls in sports and educational activities, especially in the Holguin nucleus.
