Cristian Chivu at Inter Campus Romania event

SLATINA (Romania) – Inter and Romania defender Cristian Chivu today inaugurated the new sports centre in Slatina that will host the Inter Campus programme developed by FC Internazionale in collaboration with Pirelli and Comunità Nuova, a charity which uses the game of football as a means of promotion and social integration. Those present at the inauguration ceremony included Slatina mayor Darius Dialcov, Inter Campus technical director Aldo Montinaro, Comunità Nuova president don Gino Rigoldi and Pirelli Tyre Romania director Enrico Malerba.

A worldwide humanitarian programme, Inter Campus started in 1997 and currently helps ten thousand children from 8-14 in 20 countries. After a positive collaboration with the local Inima Dentru Inima charity in favour of 450 orphans in cities like Ramnicu Vulcea and Brasov, Inter Campus has developed its activities to bring benefits to youngsters in Slatina, offering them a fun and effective tool for growth, aggregation and psychomotor recovery. For the occasion, Inter Campus Romania coordinator Lidia Dobre brought 30 children from Ramnicu Vulcea for a day of celebration and integration with Chivu and the youngsters from Slatina.

The collaboration with Inter Campus is just one of Pirelli Group’s many projects in Romania. In the province of Olt, where there are two Pirelli plants, the company runs a set of initiatives to promote the training and welfare of its personnel and their families and, more generally, to benefit the local community. These include scholarships for employees and their children who go to middle and high school, and a programme of contributions to buy text books. In collaboration with the University of Craiova, Pirelli founded the Talent in Action project, offering the most talented students scholarships and the chance of work experience at the company. Cultural initiatives include the opening of an Italian library in Slatina, Italian lessons for employees and the screening of films in Italian.



The group has also promoted a collaboration project between Milan’s Niguarda hospital and the general hospital in Slatina, providing education for medical and nursing personnel through professional exchanges and training courses in both cities. Other efforts in the field of medicine include vaccination campaigns for personnel and the Overland for Smile project which provides dental care for all the disadvantaged children in Slatina and the children of Pirelli Tyre Romania employees.
