[Inter Campus Poland: football and integration]

KRAKOW – Inter Campus coaches Lorenzo Forneris and Roberto Redaelli had barely touched down in Krakow when a lovely welcome message appeared on the Inter Campus Poland Facebook page.

In fact, the freezing temperatures and snow-topped roofs were more than offset by the warmth shown to us by the children at the Jadwiga parish centre and Sieboworitze, Pavlikowitze and Kazimierz orphanages in the city.

Every day, our man on the ground Olek Kawiorski, helps transport the children by coach – decked out in Inter black and blue – to the various sports centres in the city. Training sessions have had to be organised indoors due to frozen pitches.

As with all of these visits, the activities with the children were extremely fulfilling. It was fantastic to be able to work alongside them for a few days, and thrilling to see how the project continues to go from strength to strength thanks to the hard work and passion of the local coaches.

One particular success story is the orphanage in the Jewish quarter of Kazimierz, where the project is reaping impressive rewards in terms of education and social inclusion. Testament to this is the fact that two young girls – turned football mad thanks to Inter Campus and their coach, Kasia – have signed up for their local women’s football team. We’re sure it represents the beginning of a new journey of integration and positive life experiences.
