PHNOM PENH – “There’s been cause for celebration in the village of Roong, 50km south-east of the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
“For the fifth year running, the Inter Campus team have brought enjoyment and a sense of professionalism to 175 children in an elementary school run by the non-governmental organisation Missione Possibile.
“It’s wonderful to see the youngsters from the project receive their new shirts handed out by Nerazzurri coach Gabriele Raspelli, while still wearing the old ones given to them a year ago. These jerseys could well be their only item of clothing.
“The families in Takeo Province are very poor and live in extremely modest houses, where hygiene facilities, drinking water and electricity are a luxury that few can afford. Despite all this, Inter Campus still manage to bring joy, education around sport and hope for a better future to these children.
“In a country where football is not the number one sport, we are beginning to see the fruits of our labour. In February, Missione Possibile’s first official squad – made up of elementary-school pupils who took part in the Inter Campus training sessions – will compete in the first-ever tournament in this region, which will last throughout February.
“We’re excited to see what happens! However things pan out, a big thank-you goes out to Inter Campus!”
Gerry Testori, president of non-profit organisation Missione Possibile.
