Inter Campus in Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The collaboration between local partner Alba Onlus and the Nerazzurri social programme continues, benefiting hundreds of boys and girls.

In Haut-Katanga, Inter Campus runs several projects managed by a local team of six coach-educators, involving more than 200 boys and girls from highly vulnerable backgrounds. In these communities, promoting activities that support children’s growth, education and inclusion is particularly important.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a country experiencing strong demographic growth while also facing deep social vulnerabilities. Despite its territory being exceptionally rich in valuable mineral resources, wars, tensions and severe inequalities continue to persist. The exploitation of mineral deposits, including coltan — a mineral from which tantalum is extracted, a strategic material for the electronics and aerospace industries — is at the centre of significant international economic interests. Structural instability, corruption, illegal trafficking and widespread poverty all contribute to making the reality faced by many local communities particularly complex.

Together with Alba Onlus, Inter Campus operates in several areas of Lubumbashi, working with three schools and two reception centres for street-connected children, many of whom have been abandoned by their families.

During this mission, in addition to the usual monitoring of practical activities on the pitches involving the different groups, theoretical classroom sessions were organised for the local staff, focusing on methodological and educational topics, including resilience. This is a long-term training programme that the coach-educators absorb and put into practice every day in their work with the children, both on the pitch and through educational activities and in their everyday lives.

The mission concluded with a day of friendly matches involving 320 children and adolescents aged between 8 and 15. It was a true celebration of sport, organised by Alba together with its partner CEF, an organisation specifically committed to protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls.
