BUCHAREST – The Inter Campus team was able to pay another rewarding visit to Romania recently in order to check on the progress of the project at the centres in Ramnicu Valcea, Slatina and Bucharest. Though located in different areas of the country, all three centres are working towards the same objective: to promote the social inclusion of marginalised children.
In Ramnicu Valcea, efforts to facilitate the integration between orphaned or abandoned children and other kids in the community via sport continues, alongside long-term partner organisation Inima Pentru Inima. There were great scenes after the recent Coppa Italia win over Cagliari, as the youngsters happily celebrated Brozovic’s wonder goal with their very own #EpicBrozo selfies.
The Inter Campus delegation then headed to Slatina, where the project is supported by Pirelli Tyre Romania and run in collaboration with Comunità Nuova. The focus at this site is the integration of children from the Roma community. The winters in Romania are fierce and the children usually have few sources of entertainment, but Inter Campus always manages to provide some light relief.
Last but not least was a trip to the Inter Campus centre in the capital Bucharest, which is run in partnership with the Parada Foundation and works with homeless children. The children will soon be receiving new Inter jerseys – both a symbol of identity and belonging and also an important way of encouraging the street children to go to school, which is seen as the first step towards their reintegration into society.
