Inter Campus Paraguay, learning to play together and overcome hardships

The shirts were presented and there was lots of fun and learning in a flood-struck Asunción

ASUNCIÓN – The visit to Inter Campus Paraguay has just come to a close with Nerazzurri shirts presented to over 200 boys and girls involved in the ongoing project alongside the Italian Embassy that has featured countless hours of play, football training and a course for the local coaching staff on the topic of ‘playing together’.

The Paraguay River which intersects Asunción across many points has once again burst its banks and as always when this happens, families living in the disadvantaged areas of Cateura and Zeballos Cuè where Inter Campus operates are forced to leave their modest homes and take refuge in makeshift shelters. Plywood shacks stand at the side of the roads, on top of football pitches and the flowerbeds that separate the traffic. The father of one of our children told us how they’ve been living in such a situation for eight months with no knowledge of how long the situation will last for.

In this part of the world, the sporting season has just begun. Therefore, on a scorching-hot afternoon, a large number of new six-year-olds were there, excited and ready to start on their adventures with the Nerazzurri. Local coaches, spokesperson and former player Julio Gonzalez Ferreira were to help run the opening event with the presentation of the new shirts.

Also at the ceremony was Riccardo Torresi on behalf of the Italian Embassy in Paraguay and we thank him for his constant support of Inter Campus.
