[Inter Campus Bulgaria, present and future]

TROYAN – The Inter Campus delegation was well-prepared for cold and even snow as it made a November trip to Bulgaria last week, but was pleasantly surprised when five days of sun and mild temperatures accompanied them throughout their packed week in Troyan.

Children from the Inter Campus centres in Troyan, Vrabevo, Bania and Nowo Selo came together for a special week’s training, ensuring there were plenty of moments of light relief during the Nerazzurri delegation’s visit.

It meant there were nearly 100 children taking part in the sessions run by coaches Gabriele Raspelli and Davide Lubes. And with the black and blue of Inter abounding all around, it soon became impossible to distinguish between geographic provenance and ethnicity: only the eagle-eyed local instructors Mitko, Vladi and Donchu were able to identify which children belonged to which centre.

The children’s development has gone hand in hand with that of the three Bulgarian instructors, who have shown impeccable professionalism in taking on the lessons imparted by Inter Campus delegations over the last few years. This constant improvement is one of the great success stories achieved by the initiative, making each visit more interesting and satisfying than the last.

Our delegation – led by project manager Francesco Quattrin – then spent time with the Dupnica orphanage, discussing the possibility of opening a new Inter Campus centre in the area. After sitting down with the orphanage’s director, the Nerazzurri party met up with the two potential instructors and then spent time getting to know the many youngsters who call the orphanage home. Who knows, perhaps they’ll be the next to pull on the famous Nerazzurri jersey?
