Waiting for Saturday

COCHABAMBA – The bus comes by every Saturday morning. The stop is in front of the San Sebastián prison, a place where their parents are being held. The children visit them before being whisked off to the Fundación Casari’s Recreational Education Centre (CER), all the while being accompanied by Sister Maria Angeles and Sister Claretta, both of whom are involved in the prison’s Pastoral Service.

This place is like a paradise for the children. There are lots of games to play and instructors to have fun with. There’s table football, a slide and a football pitch. Furthermore, Inter Campus coaches organise matches and tournaments for the children to enjoy. Finally, before they leave, everybody receives something to eat. 70 children come every week. There was a new face last time, with nobody having seen him before. Massimo, the President of Fundación Casari, therefore went up to him and asked him what his name was and how he had found out about CER. The young boy’s answer left everyone surprised to say the least. His young friend had invited him, saying to him the following: “It’s wonderful: we can play what we want to play, they give us food to eat and nobody beats us. You’ve got to come!”

It’s often the case that our children have had family problems and difficult lives, but Inter Campus represents the following for them: a place for listening and where they can play freely. A place of peace and serenity.
