MILAN – The initiative to help children in the process of healing and those who have recovered from leukaemia is now in its final meeting of the 2013/14 season, carried out by Inter Campus, the Maria Letizia Verga Committee and the medical staff of the Paediatric Oncology-Haematology department of San Gerardo Hospital in Monza.

On 13 and 14 June during the summer camp organised by ASD Calvairate, the children of the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza in Monza, along with children of ASD Calvairate, are taking part in training sessions and games, led by the Inter Campus coaching staff.

These days come to a conclusion with a series of meetings with children that have taken place throughout the year. The Maria Letizia Verga Committee participates thanks to the support and work of Dr. Jankovic, who commented: “These sports and recreational activities are fundamental for the patients’ physical and mental wellbeing, especially if the subject is a child, and even more so if he is ill. Today we have an approximately 80% healing rate for children affected by tumours, of which leukaemia is the most frequent. To heal the child or help them feel better however requires not just a certain physicality but also, and most of all, an interior energy and peace that people who are united can give you. So this is the great significance of Inter Campus, as they bring fun, normality and peace!”

Two days of integration, exchange, sharing and smiles, which once again show that overcoming a haematological-ontological illness is possible, and just how much sport – football in this case – can help children in their physical, social and emotional recovery.

A special thanks goes out to ASD Calvairate and Danilo Ferrami for having provided hospitality to the initiative, and to Oliviero Zappa of GS Vedano for having provided the use of the sporting facilities over the course of the meetings.
