The Kingdom of Cambodia is an independent parliamentary monarchy situated in south-east Asia. It has a multi-party democracy and its capital city is Phnom Penh. The population was decimated by Pol Pot’s Khmer Rossi regime between 1975 and 1979 but has now recovered to 14 million inhabitants. The country’s total land mass is 181,040km2.

Inter Campus Cambodia was formed in 2011 in collaboration with the Missione Possibile Onlus. The project involves 175 boys and girls and aims to support education in rural areas and organise previously non-existent recreational and sports activities. The initiative takes place in the village of Roong, around 40km away from the capital Phnom Penh

Before the project was set up, the children did not go to school because the journey was too long and dangerous, instead helping their families in the fields. Now, hundreds of them attend a primary and middle school built by Missione Possibile in their village.

Inter Campus’ involvement in the project started in October 2011 as a way of allowing the children – who have little opportunity for recreation – to practice sporting activities that are both educational and fun. The local teachers receive regular educational and sports training.
